Children

At MCFT, we believe in helping parents participate in therapy through a variety of methods. Assigning homework such as reading certain books with your child is one way to build healthy, positive connections, promote communication and openness about the topic of therapy and help children normalize certain aspects of their struggles.

Your therapist might also choose to read books with your child during therapy sessions. Most often, your therapist will most likely be using this as creative bibliotherapy to help your child identify with the character of the story, experience emotional catharsis through the story and/ or gain insight into their own life experience through the story.

This form of therapy is also known as bibliotherapy. Bibliotherapy, by definition is a therapeutic approach that uses literature to support good mental health, is a versatile and cost-effective treatment option often adapted or used to supplement other types of therapy.
